Nottingham Forest’s Rafa Mir could be under threat

Nottingham Forest are back in action this weekend following the first international break of the season as they embark on a trip to Wales to face the league leaders Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
Reds boss Sabri Lamouchi will have enjoyed these couple of weeks to work with his side without having to play two games every seven days, which would have been a disruption in trying to apply his philosophy at the club – even more so as his arrival was rather late in June.
However, training runs the risk of players unnecessarily getting injured and that may appear to have happened this week, that’s if Rafa Mir’s social media update is anything to go by where he explained he was working hard to recover.
The 22-year-old forward is currently playing second fiddle to Lewis Grabban, who has netted four goals in six Championship appearances this season but the Wolves loanee may see his role diminish if he indeed does face time out.
On the Chalkboard
Mir has been limited to just four substitute appearances in the league but has started both their Carabao Cup matches solidifying his claim as number one support to the 31-year-old frontman.
If he is reduced to time on the sidelines, it could open up the opportunity for some of Forest’s forgotten fringe players.
Someone like Zach Clough, who scored for the U23s earlier this week, could be one player to pounce on the opportunity if it comes his way.
The 24-year-old has become a bit of an outcast at the club since joining in 2017, making just 31 appearances in a Reds shirt and has been forced out on loan twice in the past 18 months or so.
There are no doubts that Forest’s main man is Grabban but expect someone like Clough to get minutes to prove himself in Mir’s absence – if he were to score or play a big part then who knows, the Wolves loanee’s time at the City Ground could become increasingly frustrating.
The 6 foot 3 striker hasn’t earned the most positive of reviews from the Reds’ fanbase either, scoring two goals in his six appearances.
