Hemp missed Saturday's crucial clash with reigning Women's Super League champions Chelsea, restricted to a role in the stands as City fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat. It meant they surrendered top spot to the Blues and are now two points behind, having also played a game more.

The club have now confirmed that Hemp has had successful surgery on the knee problem that made her miss out. No timeline has been given on her return to action, though City are likely to take their time on that front to ensure no further setbacks for one of their star players.

This news is also a blow for England, who will be without Hemp for friendlies against the United States and Switzerland. The Lionesses face the U.S. at Wembley on November 30, before taking on the hosts of next summer's European Championships in Sheffield on December 3.
