Liverpool hero predicts newbie to be better Sturridge partner than departed flop
Liverpool and England hero John Barnes is confident that Christian Benteke will prove to be a better strike partner for Daniel Sturridge than Mario Balotelli was ever likely to be.
The Italy international was shipped out to AC Milan on loan over the summer after one miserable campaign at Anfield in which he netted just four goals in all competitions.
Balotelli was initially expected to be a big hit in a front two with Sturridge, but the Englishman’s injury woes limited the duo to just one game together – away at Spurs – which was, arguably, the former Inter Milan man’s best showing in the red shirt.

Benteke has since arrived on Merseyside and played his first game alongside his English team-mate over the weekend, and the pair looked impressive until the Belgian was forced off through injury at half-time.
There were clear signs of a partnership brewing between the strikers, and TitanBet Brand Ambassador Barnes thinks that the player signed from Aston Villa will prove to be a better option that ‘Balo’ ever would have been:
“Balotelli and Benteke are completely different players,” he said.
“Benteke loves high balls, he’s strong, he’s got a great attitude and he runs the channels, whereas Balotelli is different.
“It’s a completely different partnership [Sturridge and Benkete compared to Sturridge and Balotelli], Benteke is a completely different kettle of fish.
“He has a much better attitude, so I’m hopeful [he’ll be a better option alongside Sturridge].”
